January 23, 2026 -- At approximately 8:19 p.m., Barstow Dispatch Center (BDC) received a call of a three-vehicle crash with an ambulance responding, which occurred on State Route 138 (SR-138), at Mountain Road, within an unincorporated portion of San Bernardino County. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Victorville Area, Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, along with San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Hispanic male adult, Francisco Jeremias Massac of Fontana, was driving a silver 2012 Toyota Camry, at an undetermined rate of speed, eastbound on SR-138, at Mountain Road. A White female adult was driving a white Kia Forte, in the left turn lane of westbound SR-138, at Mountain Road. A Black female adult was driving a black Lexus RX350, westbound on SR-138 at Mountain Road.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota veered into the westbound left turn lane of SR-138, directly in front of the Kia’s path of travel, and a head on crash occurred. The crash caused the Kia to veer to the right, into the westbound lane of SR-138 where an additional impact occurred between the Kia and the Lexus.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a female driver within the Kia and pronounced her deceased on scene was identified as Karla D. Jett, a 65-year-old woman from Pinon Hills. The driver of the Lexus and her passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this crash.
